I usually make the first move, but I think that I don't notice when people are putting the moves on me. I have known a lot flirts so I'm kind of oblivious to the seriousness of some people's actions.

I have to agree that sometimes the best 'jokes' are when we reveal our weaknesses in amusing ways--- for instance-- I'm a terrible klutz, so I have a million 'I tripped on X and fell over Y and landed on Z' stories. (sometimes it works as an ice-breaker too)

To me..it takes too much effort to laugh at a joke that isn't funny to please the person telling the joke..but if the person actually has the gift of a great sense of humor, I really enjoy them and yes I'll laugh at their jokes..I hate dumb jokes.

So what do we do if we're rejected? Interestingly, when I've (always politely) rejected a woman's advances, I get accused of being straight! I think even today people think feminine women are all heterosexual. When this happens, I do get angry and I want to say, 'Honey, just because I don't want you doesn't mean I don't want any woman. I'm just not that into YOU specifically.'

I never used to make the first move, and that went horribly wrong in so many ways on so many occasions--- now I usually wing it and say something dorky and hope for the best. I figure if I can get a laugh, then that's half the battle right there cos at least my interlocuter doesn't think I'm a repulsive creeper.

First I stare 'em down...like a laser. If they drop their eyes but then look at you then I am willing to smile like crazy, or seductively, perhaps just looking demented, and make my suave yet clumsy move. Humour absolutely helps!
When I was younger I usually made the first move with confidence, feeling very sure of the proper 'etiquette'. Just recently I made the first move, felt extreemly awkward, nervous etc and blew it. I find I can't read women like I used to, seems the older we get we become harder to identify. So.....I am very confoozed and reticent to do the approaching. .....
Well Smartini, I certainly have noticed that women aren't very good at hitting on each other. How many times have I stood at one end of the bar with an attractive woman at the other end, each of us making eye contact and doing nothing more? I do think that, as women, we are raised to wait for the other person to make the move. When it's two women, at least one of them is going to have to break with habit and their upbringing and walk across that bar to say hello!
And let's NOT do it with alcohol. I've found often the only women brave enough to hit on other women are the really drunk ones and no-one finds that sexy!
Oh deary, dismal prospects for any of us ever getting picked up... has anyone else noticed an inordinately high number of 'no, won't make the first move's? Who DOES make the first move haha? Or maybe the gutsy women are just too busy out making first moves to post about making first moves...

I sometimes make the first move (guess it depends on how much ive had to drink) lol!--completely sober- I dont think i could/would make the first move; even if i was attracted to the person. I would wait till they make the first move.
i dunno, issy... i think showtime offered up some sage-like insight into a woman's psyche. i mean, the next time i get cold feet at the prospect of making the first move, i'll just skip the idle chit-chat and cut to biting her on the back of her neck and mount her so that she knows that i recognize and i am willing to validate her innate 'submissive' side. i will report with results if i'm not too busy prying however many women off my jock.

I disagree with Showtime that women are 'by design... submissive.' We may have been raised that way but there is nothing in our design that makes us submissive! Way back in the seventies, people used to say that 'biology is not destiny' and I believe that's true.

I would have to say yes. I'm usually the one to make the first move. I am not opposed to have someone make that first move, but I do know that by design females for the most part are more submissive than aggressive. So if we are females seeking females, then one of us has to make the first move!.....Right?

If I think a woman is attractive, I get pretty shy, which is unusual for me, but I will make a move if I'm really interested. I'm a femme who likes femmes and, though of course femmes can be assertive, sometimes we're used to people making the move on us so we each wait for the other to do something. Then I give my head a shake and realize what must be done! I usually feel really goofy when I do it though.

I usually give subtle hints to enable the other person to say what I think they want to. I am terrible at initiating- I am never prepared for the response, even if it is positive. I'm better at reacting. It kinda sucks.
I usually make the first move and the second. Then usually I wait if I get some feedback signals. If nothing comes back I move on. I expect interest to be shown, I believe in the change of control. I am not a guy to do all the work! :)

It depends on the situation, but more often than not, I make the first move. It's a nice surprise when someone else does, or it just happens without any thought on both parts.
I love when someone makes the first move. I flirt outrageously with everyone most of the time, so if a girl doesn't make the first move I never know if she is playing or really interested. I never know what to say when I send an email to a stranger, so can't imagine knowing what to say in person
I've been known to make the first move upon occasion. I do prefer to be 'swooned' myself. *shruggs* Luckily, my smile and eyes do most of the work.

It really depends on the situation. If I'm sure the person is interested in me I'll make a move, but if I think I might get shot down I shy away. Also, my confidence is usually higher when I'm thinking about making a move, but then I turn chicken in the moment, sometimes.

I like confident women who aren't afraid to take a chance and approach me. I don't like shy or reserved women. I am responsive but not an initiator, so I prefer to be hit on rather than doing the hitting ...
i make the first move by discussing in brief, who has to make the first move. like, i'll say something like uh 'would you like to play a serious game of monopoly or uh rock-scissors-paper to decide who has to make the first move, loser takes all?' sometimes i just do an out-loud count-down to encourage someone i'm interested in to make the first move '3-2-1 GO!'. sometimes i deal in hypotheticals such as 'let's conduct a thought experiment--Einstein did and he was a smart guy, indeed, this is how he stumbled upon and developed the Theory of Relativity so a thought experiment must be a good idea--just say i was honest and trustworthy and had whatever character traits that you deem requisite to your romantic interests, could you envision, at some point in the future, which, according to the Theory of Relativity, could be right now, or a few seconds from now, or could be two years ago--making out with me?

I am more apt to make the first move via the internet or if in pubic study them and may approach them, but as I am somewhat shy I actually like to see femmes take ignitative.I dislike women who think its alway our responibility.We butches like to know we are worthy to be approached.

I start conversations and joke around with almost anyone; I flirt outrageously when it's someone I know (and who knows not to take my flirts seriously); I have never 'made the first move' in a sexual attraction situation. In relation to dating and/or relationships, I have always been picked up, mostly because I've never been 'looking' for anyone.
I'm confident with dating and I enjoy flirting so it's often me who makes the first move.
I have this great book from the 1950s called 'Manners Made Easy' (used it for some art projects) and I wish we had something similar now that would tell us the rules of dating. Perhaps arranged marriage isn't such a bad idea either. My parents know me quite well; I'm sure they could pick out a wonderful woman for me. But alas, there is no book, and my parents have declined to offer their services, so I'd say that I've made the 1st move about 50% of the time. I was really big on hand written notes when I was younger. Creative, with a sense of mystery, it got their attention. Too bad most turned out to be straight!

I always wait for the woman to approach me first, that way I know she's interested, also shyness is a real turn off for me. I always think if she doesn't have the guts to 'step up to the plate' and take some initiative,then she's not my type.
If it's online I have no problem making the first move. In person if we're in a group I'll spark up a conversation no problem. But if I'm out on my own or at a club and everyone's off dancing or whatever it's a little more intimidating. If I don't know them I'll usually wait for them to come to me.
