Spirit and Flesh Hook Pull for women and trans people.
11AM-4PM
Fee: 75$ for participants
10$ for witnesses/support people
Includes supplies, snacks and beverages.
Accessibility information: The WISE Hall has wheelchair accessible washrooms and a wheelchair entrance at the back of the Hall.
On May 1st, we will be holding a Spirit and Flesh Hook pull. This incredible spiritual ritual provides a safe space to explore yourself, the universe, and your connections with others.
The Spirit and Flesh Hook Pull is a body-based ritual, where one is pierced with sterile needles and hooks temporarily inserted on either side of the heart chakra and pulls against the piercings. This ritual focuses on sensation to reach an altered state of being or consciousness, often referred to as an ecstatic state. This ritual can be used to celebrate a passage, mourn a loss, heal old wounds, explore one's self, connect with a partner, connect with a higher power, or any other purpose that suits you.
The piercing will be done by female professional piercers, trained by Elwood Reid of Elwood's Body Modification.
This event is for past, present and future women and trans people of any sexual orientation.

Dr. Kim Chi, medical oncologist at the BC Cancer Agency's Vancouver Centre
***Jane Stanton***
Watching Jane Stanton perform is like having a late night conversation with your best friend, if your best friend is one of the funniest people you know. Jane has been called "a fiery ball of hilarious energy"; others claim she's just mean.
Jane has previously and successfully appeared at the following places without being shot in the face: Canada. She has also been featured at Bumbershoot, the Global ComedyFest, CBC
Radio and XM Satelite Rado. Along with winning Vancouver's Funniest Female in 2006, Jane has also been a frequent guest host on City TV.
***Michelle Shaughnessy***
Michelle began her show biz career at the young age of 18 moving from small town Ontario to the metropolis of Toronto. She was quickly playing comedy clubs nationwide and soon landed on television appearing on The Comedy Network and W.
Michelle is widely considered one of the funniest young comics in Canada, something she proved by beating out hundreds of other Comedians from Canada, Ireland, South Africa, and The United states to make it to the finals of Yuk Yuk's The Great Canadian Laugh Off.
Michelle has an almost confessional style of comedy that appeals to both men and women and always leaves her audience screaming for more. Her personable approach is always a guaranteed hit whether at a comedy festival, club, or corporate stage. There are big things in store for this very funny lady!
***Colleen Brow***
Colleen writes and performs her comedy at clubs throughout Canada and regularly works as a Comedian or Master of Ceremonies for corporate events. Her material tackles the general cycle of life: Childhood, dating, marriage, sex, parenting and death.
Publications she's been featured in: Chatelaine Magazine, Reader's Digest, and the Georgia Straight. When you're not reading her articles you can hear her weekday mornings on Vancouver's Roots, Rock and Rhythm radio station Shore 104 FM.
***Wanda Roberts***
Wanda comes by her comedy honestly by raising teenagers! Recently awarded most improved female comic by the Laff Riot Girls, host to the Comedy with cheese.....cake show monthly at the Fireside Cafe in Surrey and opening act to the Diva Girls Drag Show in New Westminster, Wanda's thoughts and opinions on raising kids would make your hippy mom shudder!
***Flip N Comedy***
The Flip N Comedy Series is a show that is intended to showcase up and coming Stand Up Comics and raising funds for charity. The show's producers Art Factora and Dennis Litonjua promise a great comedy event each time a show is presented.

In recognition of the International Day Against Homophobia, we would like to invite you to attend QMUNITY’s 6th Annual Awareness Breakfast on Thursday May 20th.
Each year QMUNITY’s Awareness Breakfast brings together a mix of queer community members and representatives from government, business and community groups to network, be inspired by engaging speakers, and to leave feeling positive about developments in society that are addressing homophobia.
The theme for this year’s International Day Against Homophobia is speaking out about the silence surrounding homophobia in sport. The goal is to eliminate homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism within the world of sport so that all athletes—at all levels—feel free to bring their full selves to the pursuit of individual and team athletic excellence. To learn more about the campaign, please visit www.homophobiaday.org.
This year our event will be held on Thursday, May 20th from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Coast Plaza Hotel, and early indications are we will once again sell out. The event will feature a buffet breakfast, guest speakers and inspiration for your day. We are pleased to announce Vancity is returning as our Presenting Sponsor for the 6th Annual Awareness Breakfast.
