Ebony Thomas also known as Ebony Bones is a singer-songwriter, record producer and actress from London, UK. Performing for Rolling Stone Ebony Bones was recently named one of South by Southwest’s best new acts of 2009.
A self-taught musician performing under the stage name Ebony Bones in 2007, she writes, produces, plays her own instruments and sings all her own material. Created in her bedroom, Bones’ self released 7” single We Know All About U depicting scenes of an Orwellian Britain, made an immediate impact through word of mouth. Making its radio debut as “The Hottest Record In The World Today” as well as “Single Of The Week” by BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe it also received daytime play from Jo Whiley, becoming Radio 1’s most played single by an unsigned artist. The track was also used for BBC Radio 1 TV advert In New Music We Trust.
Her next limited edition 7” single Don’t Fart On My Heart also became “Single Of The Week” and “The Hottest Record In The World Today” on the Zane Lowe Show, with the award winning video named Best Video by The British Council for the Onedotzero Festival. Appearing in publications such as NME, Q, The Guardian, The Observer i-D, and Entertainment Weekly, she did her first tour supporting The Slits and performed live for Massive Attack’s Meltdown (festival) at The Royal Festival Hall, appearing at the 2007 Glastonbury Festival and again in 2008 headlined by Jay-Z.
Noted for her sense of fashion and unpredictable antics during live shows, Ebony Bones made her US debut in the summer of 2008 performing live in New York at the Barack Obama concert held at The McCarren Park Pool. She ended 2008 with a live performance at Transmusicales Festival in Rennes, France.
In April 2009, MTV News in New York announced the release of her anticipated debut Bone Of My Bones and previewed the US exclusive of her music video for The Muzik. Starring fans across the world, she is said to have been inspired by the idea of “an abstract collaboration with a collective of like-minded individuals all galvanized by music”. The video is represented by 30 different directors from all across the globe, armed with nothing more than a camera phone or digicam and a lot of imagination. The Muzik quickly received daytime play on BBC Radio 1.
The debut album due for release summer 2009 was released in Japan mid June, impressively entering the iTunes album charts at no.10.

The Trans Inclusion Group hosts a FREE screening of "She's A Boy I Knew" – Thursday Feb.11th 6pm.
Using interviews, animation, old family footage, and voice mail, Vancouver filmmaker Gwen Haworth documents her male-to-female gender transition partially through the voices of her anxious but loving family, best friend, and wife.
Calling for a new era of DIY transgender self-representation, Haworth’s feature debut is a comic, heartbreaking, and uplifting autobiography that breaks away from the marginalized depictions of transsexuals that populate mainstream media. The film celebrates creative activism, self-advocacy and empowerment.
She's a Boy I Knew begins in 2000 with Steven Haworth's decision to come out to his family about his life-long female gender identity. The resulting auto-ethnography is not only an exploration into the filmmaker's process of transition from biological male to female, from Steven to Gwen, but also an emotionally charged account of the individual experiences, struggles, and stakes that her two sisters, mother, father, best friend and wife brought to Gwen's transition. As her transition progresses, Gwen is forced to reckon with the end of her marriage and the loss of her status as son and brother. But in doing so, she also discovers that while the nature of personal relationships may change, the love and support present within those relationships can remain just as powerful and sometimes even more so.

DJ/producers Andrew Ross and Scott Seewhale came together thanks to a shared obsession with early Chicago and Detroit classics, but do not get it twisted – Nacho Lovers is no tribute act. The duo tore down Jack’s House only to rebuild it brick by brick as a cramped Toronto apartment with way too many records. They spent the past year locked inside, cooking up original tracks that meld vintage acid synths with the propulsive thump of modern techno and house, all brought to life with an untamed, underage house party energy. These whiz kids know their history, but Nacho Lovers is the sound of underground dance music right now.

He is currently signed to Polydor Records, releasing his first two singles – "Alone" and "Yours" – in 2008. His breakthrough song was "HYPNTZ", a mashup of Notorious B.I.G.'s "Hypnotize" and Rihanna's "Umbrella". He gained further popularity in 2009 when album track "U + Me =" was chosen as the UK iTunes Store's Free Single of the Week. This single was later used as the signature tune for BBC Switch's 'The Cut'. His debut album [(UN)] was released on July 13. The album was preceded by a single, Symphonies which was released after a highly successful performance at Glastonbury 2009 in the John Peel Tent.
"Symphonies" was released as the U.S. iTunes single of the week for the week of December 28, 2009. The album UN is also available digitally on the iTunes store, and the album is expected to have a U.S. physical release later in Spring 2010. The Toronto Women's Bookstore is in crisis. They are one of the few non-profit feminist independent bookstores left on this continent and as a store rely primarily on sales to sustain themselves. However, despite courses and workshops and amazing community events and involvement, the existence of the TWB is threatened by the current economic climate.
We don't think we need to explain to you the importance of feminist and community spaces, but we do think you might like to help us make sure they stick around.
THUS! We are putting on a fundraiser for the Toronto Women's Bookstore and are having a day filled with performance, music, art and food goodness..

While in Ghana, Patricia will work to complete her field placement hours, and also supporting the many women and children of the community who are in dire need of support.
Sankofa Center for African Dance and Culture is a non profit organization combining traditional African dance and music as a tool for HIV/AIDS education and community outreach. "Sankofa" is an ancient African proverb characterized by a bird looking back on its past. It asks people to revisit their past in order to correct the mistakes that may affect their future. The Sankofa Center uses the dance and music of Africa's past to foster health and understanding of HIV/AIDS in the current generation in hopes of preventing the destruction of their future.
All ticket proceeds from this event will help to pay for the trip and provide necessary support to Sankofa.

Vitalic aka Pascal Arbez, is an electronic music artist. He was born in France and is of Italian descent. His first singles were released in 1996 and 1997, but were confined to the underground electronic music scene. However, he became good friends with Michel Amato, also known as The Hacker, whom he met in the Rex, the “techno temple” of Laurent Garnier. The Hacker suggested he send his new tracks to DJ Hell, head of Gigolo records in Munich. Pascal did so, and International DeeJay Gigolo Records, released the well known ‘Poney’ EP in 2001, which was a huge success shortly after its release. With the track “La Rock 01”, VITALIC created a club anthem which was a hit in the summer of 2001. The track was also included on many compilation albums, even rock compilations.
In 2005, VITALIC'S debut album, ‘OK Cowboy’ was released on Different/PIAS Recordings. Pascal states that all of the instruments used in the album are synthesized. His song “Trahison” from ‘OK Cowboy’ was used in the trailer for the 2007 French film Naissance des Pieuvres. His song “Poney Part 1” was featured in the Pleix film Birds. VITALIC'S second studio album ‘Flashmob’ was released in September 2009. He has spoken a great deal about the new disco influence on ‘Flashmob’. The result is an album that sounds simultaneously current and antiquated, in the best sense of both. ‘Flashmob’ is the frontrunner for top electronic album of 2009, and if VITALIC keeps up the less-than-prolific output level, we can expect the next best-of-year sometime in late 2014.
