Take the older person's age.

Divide by half.

Add 7.

If the younger person is younger than that number, that's too young.

Good rule of thumb.

Jetgirl is usually a bit older and/or a little more "uber-gay".

Hershe is usually more L-Word'esque.

I think the reason there's lack of response on this thread is because many people HAVE been aware of this policy - it's been in place since the 80's or early 90's. It's also illegal to donate if you have had sex with a man who has had sex with another man.

If you feel really strongly about it, you could write a letter or an email to Canadian Blood Services:

I don't know about the Coast Plaza dance, but I do know that there's an event called "Scissor Kiss" happening at the Oasis, with DJ's DeLux and Riot spinning for the evening. This is kind of a back-up for the event that Bridgee K and DeLux were going to host that night, but it fell through.

Cover at "Scissor Kiss" is $20 and includes champage.

Alternately, for those living on the Drive and looking for something a little different, there's an event happening at the Legion on the Drive that should be good as well.

There's an event with Ivan Coyote and Rae Spoon at Rhizome, but it's sold out.

That's pretty much all I've heard for for actual "event" events... I'm sure there's some private parties happening, if you ask around.

I'm not really into a lot of stuff, just the usual, you know, cuddling and nice sex. Smile

I don't really do anything freaky or whatever, but sometimes when I like to change things up then I like to dress myself and my lovers in farmyard animal costumes and we do roleplays where we engage in cross-species mating. The more realistic the better! The best is when they're really into it and then instead of moaning (which ruins the moment, because animals don't moan!) they make the right animal sounds during sex (like, if they're a sheep they go "Baaa!!!" and if they're a cow they go "Mooooo!!!!", maybe some squealing). Sometimes I like to play the farmer instead and instead of sex we act out killing the animal for food - first the killing, then the skinning, and then the dismemberment. It helps that I learned how to take apart full lambs when I worked in a meat department a few years back. One time we even took it to the next step when she wore a pig outfit and I poured maple syrup on her to eat sausages and bacon! The only hard part was getting the sticky syrup out of the outfit afterwards - the costume says "hand wash only", so it was a bitch of a time getting it clean.

Hiring: Moderators 07-24-2008 10:19 Forum: Announcements

We are currently looking to add to our Superdyke.com moderating team!

Please read the following carefully before proceeding. Moderator candidates:

1. Must be people who are usually at a steady "Calm" and don't bounce from highs to lows on the forum (moody).
2. Demonstrate that they can take flames, deal with others in a respectful manner, be objective and in general, promote a friendlier atmosphere in the community. When they post, they post something worthwhile.
3. Adhere to the forum rules - what might be borderline in a regular poster is in NO way appropriate for a moderator. They can be held to the "higher standard" expected from moderators.
4. Can represent superdyke on the boards, even upholding policies that they may not agree with.
5. Work well and professionally in a team.
6. Contribute AT LEAST 2-3 hours/week in moderating time. Please carefully consider if you have the time necessary.
7. Lastly and very importantly, moderator candidates are also expected to be able to show Customer Service skills and common sense in dealing with people in a professional manner.

What Are the Responsibilities of a Forum Moderator?

1. Foster a sense of community, caring and responsiveness in your assigned forum. This can be done easily by getting involved in discussions, responding to posts (especially those no one else reponds to), and offering your support. NOTE: You do not have to reply to every post.

2. Monitor the forum for abusive posts, unauthorized spam or advertisements, copyright infringements, any sort of harrassment, and any other violations of the forum rules, and edit or delete posts that violate these rules. Use Admin Alerts to send reports to the forum administrator for serious and "repeat" offenders, or questionable posts you aren't sure about.

3. Participate in the private Forum Moderator's forum. Only current moderators have access to this forum. This is the place to post questions, concerns, problems, ask for help, and get feedback and input from your fellow moderators. It is a good idea to visit this forum regularly to keep updated with changes in the forums.

To apply, put "Forum Moderator Application" in the subject of your email, and send your username along with answers to the following questions to vanevents@superdyke.com:

1. Why do you want to be a moderator?
2. What do you think you would contribute to the moderating team? What qualities and skills do you offer?
3. What kind of experience/skills can you bring to the group? Include any past moderating experience.
4. Name one thing about the boards that you think needs improvement.
5. You have banned someone, but another moderator disagrees with your decision and lifts the ban before the ban time you have set has elapsed. What do you do?
6. A friend of yours also posts on the boards and posts something just skirting the rules. You check their admin notes and discover that have have been warned repeatedly about this same issue in the past. What is your response?
7. A friend comes to you complaining that some action has been taken against them (warning, suspension, ban, etc.) by another moderator, and wants you to find out why. Upon further investigation, you discover that you believe the action is unjustified. How do you handle that?

If your application is approved, the forum administrator will assign your member account moderator permissions and privileges.

Thanks for your time.

When I met I met my current girlfriend I fell for her...hard. She was so nice, strong-I felt safe, she loved my children, we had fun. I had know her for many years before we hooked up and I know that she was abusive to her former girlfriend. I feel like I am headed down that same path but I don't know what to do. She swears at me, she has physically hurt me, she calls me names. When we have argued and I tried to leave she pins me to the bed and won't let me go until I talk to her. I am scared to talk to her about her behavior because she reacts so strongly. I know this is bad but I am partly in denial and partly scared....I just don't know what to do. I keep it a secret from everyone I know because I am ashamed. I know this is wrong but I don't know what is wrong with me..why I just can't leave. Please help me.

Pivot to host free summer music concert 07-10-2008 00:06 Forum: Community Events

Pivot to host free summer music concert

This summer on August 30th, Pivot Legal Society will be hosting "Justice Rocks," a one-day free concert in East Vancouver’s Strathcona Park. The first annual musical event will fuse indie rock with themes of justice and equality, featuring an impressive line up featuring local indie musicians Choir Practice, Curtis Santiago, the Furbearing Animals, and others.

“We wanted to find a way to fuse music and ideas for social change,” said John Richardson, Executive Director of Pivot. “Music has always been a powerful medium for expressing the importance of justice and equality, and we wanted to find a way to make that into a really fun time.”

Justice Rocks will feature a full day of musical programming with displays and activities on the themes of environmental and social justice, highlighting innovative ways to make social change happen.

Justice Rocks will be a family oriented outdoor event and will offer a "Kidz Zone," including a shaded child-oriented rest area, face painting, big bubbles, story-time hosted by children’s librarians from the Vancouver Public Library, crafts and cooperative games for children of all ages.

For more information, please visit www.justicerocks.org.

Justice Rocks is looking for Volunteers, Partners, and Sponsors!

Get involved! Justice Rocks are looking for:
• volunteers who want to have a fun day and help make the event a success
• non-profit groups that would like to promote ideas for change by hosting a tent
• businesses that would like to support the event by becoming official sponsors

If you have questions or are interested in becoming involved, please contact us at peoplepower(AT)justicerocks.org or Pivot Legal Society at (604) 255-9700.

We hope to see you there!

Queer Poetry Slam (lookin' for volunteers) 07-08-2008 03:22 Forum: Calls for submissions

Received via email:

Hey there lovely poetry/queer/arts enthusiasts,

We're looking for several fabulous people to help out at the Queer Slam on Monday, July 14th.

Here is what we need:

2 people for the door
2 people for score/timekeeping
1-2 people for the merch table

Volunteers get in to the event for free and also look like pretty rad elite poetry stars. Also, hot queer poets will be endebted to you.

Not only is volunteering at the Queer Slam an awesome opportunity for allies to support LGTBQ folks by helping the event to run smoothly, it's also one fantastic way for LGTBQ and questioning folks to connect and get involved in the queer arts community. If this sounds like fun/entertainment/a good way to get laid/good karma building material to you, please email Kimothy at definitelybeautifulATgmail.com and let me know which task you'd be willing to take on.
