Any Persons of Colour interested in gathering? 07-22-2010 19:42 Forum: Queer People of Colour

Mollena: International Ms Leather 2010, is coming to Vancouver, BC in November 2010 from the 11th to about the 17th. I'm wondering if there is any interest in doing a POC session with her while she is in town. Let me know! Preliminary details of her visit can be found at http://NubianImp.com.

The session I'd like to have her present is as follows.
!Kona
===================================

Minority within a Minority:
Being a Person of Color in the BDSM Community

While some kinksters embrace their Leather lifestyle with ease and nary a look back, others of us face difficult paths towards the leather lifestyle that are fraught with many pitfalls. One’s religious, cultural and racial heritage can add myriad layers and nuances to the process. Though some may view the Lather Community as a Utopian, Egalitarian enclave, it actually is a microcosm, full of all of the twists, turns, fears and hopes that haunt and inspire the rest of the world.

In this class, we will discuss some of the issues facing minorities as their numbers grow within the public BDSM community. Stereotyping? Racism? Classism? "Not in our Community!" you say? Think again. The instructor will share her own experiences in coming to terms with being a black female with submissive and slave tendencies, and still reconciling those feelings with feelings of isolation, guilt, desire, loss and an intense need to be true to her path. EVERYONE is encouraged to attend; share your experiences or learn about the experiences of others in an open, accepting environment.

User group info required please 12-13-2008 15:49 Forum: Website improvements

So, as far as I know there are at least two forums that require one to be a member of the "user group" in order to join.

Do you think you could post what they are and how to join in a sticky thread someplace please? Thank to posting a provocative tag for my online status I've been getting the same questions over and over and I don't have the time to be restate myself when I could do it in one place, be done and continue the conversation.

I've been poking around trying to remember how I joined them and I've pointed a few people on the system towards the user group "Kink... etc" in the last couple of days. I'm not really into working it out (lord I've searched! It ain't intuitive to me!) and then sending folks the info individually.

>
> Carl Laudan’s first feature is an examination of violence and its impact through a cycle of characters inhabiting a women’s transition house. Delving into a world that deftly balances despair with surrealism, Laudan and his writer Katherine Schlemmer build up a startling portrait of characters jolted out of the mainstream. Avoiding much of the heavy-duty drama associated with the subject, Sheltered Life instead focuses on three teenagers who attempt to navigate an unstable world. While violence does eventually intrude on this strange new landscape, Laudan catches flashes of humour, friendship and adolescent joy amidst the absurdities of inhabiting a house full of strangers and victims. A powerful debut, Sheltered Life echoes the work of American director David Gordon Green while establishing its own original cinematic voice.
